Meet Regan!

What’s your educational background?
I’m a bit of an education addict. I have a BA in Cultural Anthropology from UBC in Vancouver, a BFA in Media Arts and Art History from NSCAD University in Halifax, and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from York University in Toronto.

How did you first hear about 4Cats?
When I moved back to Victoria, I was staying with friends that live a few blocks down from the beautiful Oak Bay studio.

Why 4Cats?
After delving into a few different careers within arts and media, I decided that what mattered most to me was that I was doing work that I enjoyed and that I considered to be a worthwhile contribution to the community. I’ve previously taught art classes in galleries across Canada, and after researching the 4Cats philosophy and curriculum, I knew that this was a program I would be proud to be a part of.

What is your favourite colour?
Robin’s egg blue

Favourite art quote?
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” ~ Marcel Proust

Who is your favourite artist and why?
Robert Polidori. I’m a photographer by training and Polidori’s work is stunning. He works so well with natural light and I love the palette of soft colours in his photographs. His ability to pull beauty out of destruction and ruin is second to none.

What is your favourite art medium, and why?
Photography and painting are my mediums. I find that process most similar to what interested me in art in the first place. Walking around you often see these vignettes and moments that strike you, and you wish you could stop things to capture that moment. Art allows you to do that — you can just stop things that you see. You have the ability to bring back that moment later — to share it, or even just keep it for yourself.

So…any other interesting facts we should know about you?
Well, I would say most people are curious as to why I have tattoos of teddy bears on my arms. The bears are actually my favourite set of salt and pepper shakers. The tattoos remind me of antiquing with my best friend, and of a fantastic couple of years I had living in a beautiful — but tiny! – little home in Saskatchewan. You can catch me glancing down at them from time to time and sneaking a little grin.
