Meet Patricia Bevis!

What’s your background?
I was born and raised in beautiful Sydney Australia. After completing school I worked in retail management and studied journalism and marketing. During this time I saved up all my money and decided to travel the world! I went all around the United States and Canada, the UK and Europe and then lived in England for a year.

What is your favourite colour?
Yellow! It’s the brightest and happiest colour of all. Vincent Van Gogh loved yellow too.

Favourite art quote?
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” – Pablo Picasso.
Picasso was a very wise man. He hit the nail on the head with this one.

Who is your favourite artist and why?
Hmmm, too many to choose from! I love them all! Vincent Van Gogh is the first artist I learnt about and probably my favourite. Like me, his favourite colour was yellow. He used lots of thick paint in his beautiful paintings and he loved to do dots, dashes and swirls. How fun! Sometimes when he didn’t have a lot of money he would buy art supplies instead of food! You gotta respect that kind of dedication. What an art hero!

What is your favourite art medium, and why?
Clay of course! It’s messy, you can “throw a pot” and you can fire it in a kiln that’s as hot as a volcano!
I love getting all the air bubbles out by throwing it on the floor and hitting it with a mallet. The clay wheel is my absolute favourite. “Ghost” any one?
