Johannes Vermeer was a Dutch painter from the 17th century. He was born over 350 years ago. He is famous for his beautiful paintings of interiors. Many of his paintings show one or two people standing or sitting next to a large window. That doesn’t sound very interesting, but his paintings really are! Vermeer did not become world-famous until about a hundred years ago. The same objects show up again and again and again in his paintings – it’s fun to try and spot them! He was a master at painting light and shadow.
